What is RFID?

RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification. RFID tags are small objects used to store and transmit data. Think of them like a UPC barcode -- only much, much smarter and much, much more useful.

RFID tags can be used to track everything from grocery items in a warehouse to employees in the field. Unlike UPC barcodes, you don't need to actively scan each RFID tag to track them -- RFID transmitters read tags within their range automatically. RFID tags on cars can be used to automatically deduct tolls without stopping at a booth. And RFID tags can replace magnetics strips on employee ID badges, allowing instant verification and tracking.
